"El Guadual" is an ephemeral installation that was built at CASACOR Peru 2023, an exhibition known as the largest and most complete exhibition of architecture, interior design and landscaping in the Americas.

Invited to propose an intervention sensitive to the care of the body and the environment, the IVUC-USMP team designed an outdoor lounge that encourages people to meet, relax and revitalize in an atmosphere impregnated with serenity and nature. A garden where Guadua, a bamboo endemic to Peru, stands as trees to subtly delimit the spaces, whose lushness provides shade during the day and becomes a source of illumination at night, creating a cozy atmosphere and the impression of being in a bamboo forest, which suggested its name "El Guadual".

Within this wooded environment, a variety of spaces and decorative proposals have been created with the aim of providing a sensory and emotional experience in connection with the natural environment inspired by the "Wabi-Sabi" aesthetic, a Japanese concept that values the beauty of the imperfect, the ephemeral and the simple.

In this search, the design combines rustic natural materials, such as shell, stone, rattan and bamboo, together with modern techniques and materials that are harmoniously integrated in a composition that is at once imperfect, warm and minimalist. Within it, bamboo plays a fundamental role as it assumes both a structural and architectural role. Its use in architecture and interior design helps create spaces that convey a sense of calm, serenity and authenticity.In addition to its elegance and natural warmth, bamboo offers high resistance and numerous ecological advantages; it is a highly renewable resource whose cultivation and production generate less environmental impact than other materials, which is why its use constitutes a solution to lower the pressure on primary forests and reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by the construction sector.

Thanks to a previous treatment, its durability is ensured and the development of innovative end connectors allows the installation to be easily disassembled for later reuse without generating waste or negative impacts on the site where it was installed.

During the 6 weeks that the Casacor exhibition lasted, the thousands of people who visited "el Guadual" were very enthusiastic about the proposal, highlighting its cozy and warm aspect and being surprised with the possibilities that bamboo offers as a structural and architectural material.
