Varivana is 4 stars resort on the top of mountain of Koh Phangan. The hotel location is 1 kilometers away from the beach area. Standing on the top floor of this hotel, the visitor can enjoy the ocean view on the west with multiple-hector coconut orchards as a foreground view. On the east side the view is surrounded by other mountains on this island. Varivana’s name came from Vari (water) and Vana (forest), this resort is the medium that connects visitors to the sea and the surrounded natures. And this resort is the only luxury resort on this island that located on the mountain, away from the sea. Koh Phangan is the new tourist attraction island, not as fully-occupied as Koh-Samui, most of the plots along the beach area still available. So, one of the ambition for this hotel is prove that living quality and experience of living away from the sea is better than live right at the beach. We hope that the success of this mountain top resort can pull construction of the other projects away from the beach, and make the shoreline more natural and peaceful. Living on this mountain only take 5 minutes drive to the beach. The only difference will be the wind quality. The wind breeze will be less strong compared to the beach but will be much fresher because it has less salt in the particle. Then, the challenge is to make architecture of this resort that can accelerate the wind.

该项目的建筑是12米高的墙壁和2.5米悬臂式阳台的结合，整个外部材料都是暴露的混凝土。度假建筑是单载走廊，游客进入房间前必须进入私人前廊，此计划使游客能够全天打开后窗和门，获得充分的通风，而又不会失去隐私。分隔每个房间的墙壁也将有助于加快吹过该建筑每平方米的风的速度。
The architecture of this project is a combination of 12-meters-height walls and 2.5 meters cantilevered balconies, the entire exterior material is an exposing-concrete with coconut form-works. The resort building is single loaded corridor, visitors has to enter private-front porch before entering their room. This planning allows visitors to be able to open their back window and door to get full ventilation all day, without losing privacy. The walls dividing each rooms will also help accelerating the speed of the wind that blows though every square meters of this architecture.

The over-structured-cantilevered balconies is the signature of this project. Each of them has 2.5 meters side facing the east-west direction which is best for using as sun-lounger location, and can also allows users to enjoy ocean view and sea-wind.

On the top floor of this resort has 30-meters-wide-infinity pool facing the ocean and the mountains scenery. This infinity effect can be a great feature that connect users to the sea and the surrounded nature.

该项目的主要材料是椰子木模板混凝土。椰子园是帕岸岛（Koh Phangan）的主要产业之一，因此有大量可用的椰子木。这种木材质地柔软且易于腐烂，因此不是用作建筑物的结构或外墙的首选材料。但是它可以用作混凝土模板，这种木材的毛状纹理将成为建筑表面的标志。
Main material of this project is coconut-wood-form-work concrete. Coconut orchards is one of the major business of Koh Phangan, so there are ample amount of coconut wood available. This wood has soft and easy to rot, so it’s not a preferable material to use as a structure or a facade of the architecture. But it can be use as a concrete form-work and the hairy texture of this wood will become a signature of the architecture’s surface.

该项目的入口空间在大厅平台中间的一根柱子上有一个大屋顶。这个接待室没有立面，没有玻璃，没有墙壁，但是游客不会失去自己的私密感，因为周围的大自然将这个空间封闭起来。屋顶的规模与周围的山脉一样大，给人，自然与建筑之间的整体感。
The entrance space of this project has one large roof sitting on one column in the middle of the lobby platform. This reception room has no facade, no glass and no wall, but the visitors won’t lose their sense of privacy, because of the surrounded nature will be the enclosure of this space. The scale of the roof is looks as large as the surrounded mountains, to give the sense of totality, between human, nature and architecture.
